Before I converted me SE to a manual I was having overdrive problems. My crazy -smart mechanic told me that the overdrive actuator on the side of the trans could have worn out o-rings. So find out where it's located and see if it's responding, and if it is check the o-rings. If not, trace the wiring, check the switch and so on...
