Does anyone know where to get these? I know my oem unit is a rn-9009-c but i can't find that exact model manual in my searches.

I have a factory service manual with schematics for mine. I can't recall the model number and unfortunately I'm out of the country for another week.  Hit me up mid-month and I'll check on it for you.

Thanks mate will get in contact then.

This is my oem head unit. I presume they were the same world wide?

There should be a sticker on the radio housing with the exact model number. With yours being for a right-hand drive car the tuning frequencies could be different and thus a different model number. Aside from that the instrumentation looks the same. Is the antenna switch separate from the radio?

My model is RN-9008 and that's the service manual I have. What info are you looking for?

Nebuchernezzer

Rn-9009-c from memory on the radio. The aerial button is separate from the radio itself and the radio brackets have provision to move the button to the other side actually (with a different facia). I am just looking to have a manual in case i have issues with the unit. I'm not aure if it works yet but i might get a chance to hook it up tonight and see.

Right, well I'm comfortable saying yours and mine are simply variants of the same model with the differences probably in the tuning section. In the US, FM frequencies run from 87.9-107.9mHz with AM radio frequencies of 540-1610kHz.

Plug yours in and give it a shot. Only the notchbacks have the FM diversity switch and dual hight power antenna. If the power antenna balks at proper operation you may find useful info here: http://club-s12.org/retro4/index.php?topic=37592.msg405046#msg405046 I see you've been active in that thread already. The second antenna is within the rear window glass along with the defroster.

I had a close look at the two radios and it seems that the only difference apart from the tuning is that where my right hanf tuning button is the us radios have two small horizontal buttons. What do they do? I can get an rn-9008 manual for 19 usd delivered which seems ok so i might do it.
I plugged mine in and it doesn't seem to power up. So repair is likely in order.

The North America version has a single square button for scanning across the frequency band to the next signal of sufficient strength to lock plus the two smaller horizontal buttons for manual tuning.

Cool, a variation on the theme, we have two square buttons for up/down and i think a long press will make it scan in that direction (from memory).
Anyways the power delivery side of things and likely everything else will be very similar.
I presume the manual will give enough detail to look into those things?

Also does anyone know what the DX and M buttons do?  I noticed there is a DIN input on the back that is covered up, does it relate to another input or something?

The "M" is for setting station memory. The DX is an old broadcasting term for 'long distance' and it's depressed when tuning to distant stations and released in city environments where stations are usually much stronger.

The service manual gives procedures for tuner alignment, a parts description, operating instructions, IC descriptions, parts list, exploded view of assembly, circuit board view, and three gatefold circuit diagrams.

The back of the unit should have two DIN ports. The 5 pin DIN is used for the optional cassette deck and the 7 pin DIN is used for the optional EQ. (model EN-339I) With no EQ there is a straight jumper in place.

That your unit fails to power on at all may indicate a simple fix. There is a 7.5 amp blade-type fuse on the back of the unit that should be checked first.

Nebuchernezzer

Thanks for that!
Good info :).
I've just bought myself a manual for the RN-9008 online too.
Fuse looked good when i put it in (i did check it) but that could no longer be the case now haha.
I've not seen the EQ although it's quite likely it was never offered in oz, where did they have space to mount that in the dash anyway?  In place of the tape deck?

It goes in place of the cassette deck. The only way to have both is with a different head unit that has built-in cassette.

The next place I'd look in a 'no power' situation is the power switch and to make certain your harness is delivering voltage. If not, there's also a fuse in the panel.

Nebuchernezzer

Ah yes, i've seen that combo head unit with the cassette up high, i think in a full white RSX down here in oz.
I've got to pull the head unit out to fit various things (remote entry, USB ports etc to be hidden under the dash) so i'll be in there with a multimeter very soon :).
