You'll be able to get it fixed for a reasonable price. Strong-arm Sideways into telling you where to find those parts.

And look on the bright side, this impact is going to be what gets you active on the forum again!
Infrequently driving an s12.

No need to strong-arm me lol If your interested I'll tell you through PM as He is banned from the forums and is not to be mentioned...

That sounds like a good strategy.  Thanks for posting, rhino.
Should I contact my insurance company and ask them to put pressure on the other insurance company?

I doubt it. If it's the other guy's insurance making the payout then your insurer doesn't have a stake in the game. I had a similar experience and ran the payoff up about 50% over the initial offer which was left as a voicemail. The claims adjuster will continue trying to reach you. It's in his interest to clear off this claim quickly and cheaply, but if quickly isn't happening then the 'cheaply' part of his strategy weakens. You could ask your insurer the max they'd pay if the roles were reversed. But by all means I would keep the car on a reduced payout. Run the number up then take like 80% and keep the car and the cash. Or just give it to me....I'd love to drop that engine into my coupe.

Just got the total loss offer via email, almost a month later. $1,053.
I'm going to ignore them and see what happens.

Wait a while & tell them you will take $1,500 AND keep the car and you will be in good shape

Great minds think alike.  :cool2:

I agree. If they offered $1000 you can bet they know it's worth $1500 and not having to deal with a totaled vehicle is a bonus. Let them call you 2-3 more times before even talking with them. You'll hear the desperation growing in their voices.

SuperWhitePlatinum

The insurance company upped the offer to a little over $1,500 so it looks like I'm going to move forward as a total loss and let them take it away - I just don't have the time and money to fix it. Pretty sad day for me. I've owned this car for 30 years to the month since I bought it brand new for $14,600 in 1987. At least I can say I got my money's worth. Best car I've ever owned.
I'm really going to miss her...
My next car will be a Hellcat Widebody. That should make me feel better but for now I'm stuck driving a 2011 Sienna minivan.

I sure hate to think of it heading to a crusher. Bay Area guys need to keep an eye on the local yards.

PM sent.

Lost my 88 SE the same way. I feel you platinum. Was a great car. I worry my 85 might succumb to the same fate eventually. I've had at least 2 or 3 near misses where it has almost got totaled over the years. Most recently was less then a month ago when a mustang ran a red light and almost creamed my driver side rear quarter panel. I really thought the 12 was done but by some miracle he missed me. The streets can be an unforgiving place for the often irreplaceable s12's.

Indeed, S12_Lifer to the rescue.  I'm just waiting for Colonel Custard to confirm a day when he can drive the car down to San Diego.  Rest assure, she will come to a good home.  My first SE!  This will make number 8.  S12 for life!

Allright Jamie, join the VG club! Can't wait to see what you do with this one! Mine is a super reliable DD to be sure, get LOTS of questions about it. With good pipes it sounds wonderful.

Couldn't have gone to a better home. Congrats to all involved; this car will live on for another lifetime.

Hey, just curious if you ever got the car? Haven't been on this forum in YEARSSS. Since I had my 1988 S12 with SR20 actually. I now live in San Diego too and was curious if you still have it. Message me on IG if you do plz! @danyobe
