Road trip to Vegas
« on: 09:58:34 AM / 03-Dec-17 »
The wifey and I decided to spend our long Thanksgiving weekend in Las Vegas.  This would also be the first time driving my S12 to Vegas and to really "stretch her legs" to see how she would perform on the five hour trip.

Since I had Thanksgiving Eve off and waited for wifey to get off work, I decided to give her a bath before leaving.

Time to check the fluids and any signs of leaks.

Road trip ready!  Time to have tire pressure checked and fill her up with premium.

We left San Diego around 2pm.  As soon as we got on the I-15, this was the first thing we saw.

The HOV lane was not to bad.  Notice the traffic on the right.

Once the HOV lane ended, traffic got really bad.  I'm sure most of you know what it is like to drive your 12 in traffic, especially with a heavy duty clutch...........sucks!

We had reservations to stay in Barstow which is the half-way point to Vegas.  It took us 5 hours to get there which would have only taken 2 hours from San Diego with no traffic.  This shot was taken at the main gate of the military base we stayed at.

Loading the 12 at the lodge.  We were the only ones there, haa!

Before leaving the base, I wanted to stop by to see the Amtracs that were on display.

Just my luck when leaving the base.  Not just one but two different freight trains going in opposite directions.

Back on the I-15 with no traffic on Thanksgiving Day.

Passing the tallest thermometer in the world in Baker, CA.

Caught up with a late 80's Toyota.

Once passing the state line, we stopped by the Gold Strike Casino for lunch.  They happened to have the original cars from movies and TV shows on display.  Here is the original Batmobile which was during my time growing up.  Notice the Delorean behind me from the movie, Back to the Future.

We arrived in downtown Vegas to check into the 4 Queens Hotel/Casino.

The next day I contacted a couple of our S12 brothers in Vegas to see if they wanted to meet up.  We decided to meet at Gary's house (Wonderingravin).  This is Patrick's SE.

Gary's four S12's.

Taking Gary for a short cruise around his neighborhood.

Giving Patrick the opportunity to drive my 12.  He loves that boost!

It was great to meet up with those Vegas boys.  We had a great time talking about our latest projects and possibly meeting up for the December meet in San Diego.  I told Gary I may meet up with him along with the So Cal boys in March for a Ratsun meet.

On our last day, we stopped by Nellis Air Force Base in North Las Vegas to do some shopping and to fuel up before hitting the highway.

I was surprised the cost of premium was a lot less than San Diego.

This was one of the best road trips I have had in a long time.  The only issue I had with the SR was my AC decided to quit on me.  However, the weather was perfect (70's) so we really did not need it.  The highlight of this trip for me was meeting up with Patrick and Gary.  It was great to be around six S12's in Vegas!  Looking forward to another road trip with the So Cal boys (and girls).   S12 for Life!
