So I used to own a z31, and the go-to method of putting coil overs on was to chop the strut near the spindle and weld on the base of the coil. I’ve read all the s13 conversion boards and I don’t understand why this hasn’t been discussed, is it possible? Or am I missing something...

Actually whats being done is to chop off the pirch, weld on some stops, and slip the threaded coil-over sleeve on the strut tube.

Pro-shocks sleeves fit the stock tubes.

You can then run any coil-over spring you want, and adjust the ride height.

Most likely your wording is just wrong. What you described would be a disaster.
