Well I was driving to work tonight and I got on the gas, at about 5000rpm on the tach wich I think winds up faster than the actual rpm. I lost alot of hp. Then it started running like shit. Sputtering and kicking ect. It would run ok at 3000-4000rpm... any lower and it sputtered any more throtle and it sputtered. I have to it to a freinds house where I can work. But where do I start. I am at a loss. I looked for lose conectors, checked the plug wires cap and rotor all locked normal. No oil in the colant. No froth or aparent bubbles in the oil. I noticed that the breather tube for the valve cover was kinked. My little 85 nissan 200sx has the ca18et motor in it and I need some help? I don\'t know where to start. ARGH!!!

Check that
1. your plugs are clean and gapped fairly tight (0.8 to 0.9mm)
2. you haven\'t blown off any hoses between the turbo compressor outlet and the inlet manifold
3. your AFM wiring is ok and the AFM element is clean

You should be able to find advice on cleaning the AFM around here somewhere, just search.

Plugs are top notch.
Hoses are all good.
AFM is still pluged in, but i don\'t know how to check it.

The car doesn\'t even run now! I\'m ****ed!!!!

unplug maf, try to start... car doesent even turn over? Do you still have spark? Use a LED diod to test injector pulse signal... next is compression :(

Well I took the Valve cover off. I find this Little bolt has walked it self to its last 2 thread!

****ing great I think. Put it back together and Find out I have 2 dead holes! Both cyl 2-3 are 0 compression. the ****ing gauge didn\'t even flinch! So i didn\'t have a leak down tester and could find one in the city to buy. I am going to take it to school on tuesday and see what I can find. But there is a good chance something got good and ****ed up! Needless to say the tib is back on the road. ****!!!!! I am so pissed off and don\'t even know where to start in trying to get this all fixed up. My budget ran out. If it cost much money the car will have to stay dead for a while. So much for my plans :(

0 compression only happens for two reasons... valves stuck open, and HOLES in pistons (it does happen).

0 compression on 2 and 3 sounds like valves stuck open(firing order 1,4,2,3), especially with you\'re loss of valvetrain compenents would be my best bet. Reasemble the valve train best you can, but im guessing from what you said during you\'re driving experience the valves got bent.  after Head gasket and machine shop you\'ll probably be $250(US) in the whole... but not that bad.

Is the SOHC an interferance motor btw? I dont know...

After all the botom end work doing the top end right now is not finacialy fesable. Thats the big problem. I am going to try and get it into the shop tomorrow and see what I can find

shadowcat

Well it looks like I just blew a head gasket. It wasn\'t too bad. Getting it machined and taken car off. Now its just a matter of getting it all back together in time.

still take a look at your valvetrain. You lost a rocker bolt and that 2/3 0compression sounds like that stuck valve. Inspect the seats and make sure everything is turning cleanly and in tolerance. Check now while the engine is apart, better safe than sorry.

I\'m going to be taking the measurments tomorrow. I\'ll put up a picture of the blown head gasket. It was Exploded through the 2 cylnders.

yeah, 0 compressoin just dosent sound like H/G... I dont knwo.

Normaly i would agree with you. Wich is why I am on my way to measure my valve clerance anyways. But if you saw the gasket you would understand. It is mostly because I tried to limp it home and kept making it worse. :(

Now it is going to be a while before I am certified but that looks like a blown gasket to me. Thats where being positive got me :P

I hed my head gasket blown the same way. It was not an original nissan.
When u lok for a gasket make shure that the metal rings in it are made of one piece. on one side all the cylinder rings aroun holes should be conented together. My former hasket had those rings in two parts. 1-2 and 3-4.
