I read the post from the guy in the GTI...he was trying...he was kinda dissapointed too.  I think he said hes planning on selling the GTI and buying a Mach 1 Mustang and putting a twin turbo kit on it.  It was linked from the LS2.com forums, but its down right now so I can\'t go find the thread.

Also the engines in the Corolla, Celica, Matrix, and Vibe are pretty much the same.

Base engine in all of them are the same I believe it is the 1ZZ 1.8 L VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing, and inteligence) which depending on the model gives 138-140 hp at the flywheel.

The other engine which is better is the 2ZZ 1.8 L VVTL-i (Variable Valve Timing, and Lift inteligence).  This engine produces 180 hp at the flywheel, and is used in the Matrix XRS, Celica GT-S, Corolla XRS (2005), MR2 Spyder, and Vibe blah blah blah....And in most of those models they are linked to a 6-speed tranny.  These are the only engines from Toyota in Canada that I know of that are the equivalent of the Honda V-TEC, and I will tell you it is kind of unnerving when the valve timing changes at 6000 rpm, It can scare the crap out of you if you\'re not expecting it.

sure toyota\'s turning out some lesser engines now, but rember the good old 2JZ, ahhhhhh....... and just to show I\'m not a dweeb who learned it from the F & F, the full code\'s 2JZ-GTE, and it was in the MK IV supra and in the Lexas IS300... so there!

That car is not all that slow. I had a 03 rolla until I bought my 200. I had a coolant bypass and intake on it. Some other minor things I did to bump power but I wont talk about those here.

Anyway I raced with a Jetta 1.8T for 3 lights and got a 2 - 3 car lead on him each time. The only thing that made him catch up was my 160 km/h speed limiter!!!!! After I hit that he pulled beside me and then passed. I had him follow me to a parking lot so I could see what he did. He was mostly stock with a new filter. That was it though. But I still wooped him all 3 times. I know for sure he was racing for the last time because he unrolled his window and said \"Lets try again\". I said sure and the light went green and off we went.  There is rumors amoung the new corolla owners that the car actually was underated to keep Celica sales up. It has the same power as the celica 140 hp. But they ony claim 130. The main reason for this thought is that when they are dynoed they are coming up with stock hp numbers of between 110 - 120. IF that is true and they only have 130 hp at the fly, then toyota has some serious secrets about making cars trannies more efficient than anyone else.

I got rid of the car coz it didnt tune well. It had good power for what it was, but sometimes the VVT-i in it had no idea what it was doing. So sometimes you would race and the car couldnt get out of its own way. Other days you couldnt beleive it was the same car. It pissed me off. It wouldnt give you a warning. One minute my car is smoking a Neon R/T at 2 lites, then for the third light the VVT-i never seems to work and I am stuck feeling like I was driving a civic!!!! I tried with many others to figure out what exactly the vvti is looking for when it decides to adjust the timing. If we could get that, then we could have made a vvt-i controller similar to Vtec. But toyota screwed the ecu around so bad that nobody yet has found a way to alter it. EVEN TRD had to make a piggy back for it to run the SC. Otherwise it was leaning out and blowing engines. There are a few guys getting over 200 hp to the wheels on those. The one guy has a turbo from staford fabrications. It has been nothing but trouble. He even burned a couple valves and popped his engine right after the turbo went on. Toyota ended up covering it. It turned out there was a pretty serious problem with the way the rings aligned. I suspect the problem was bigger than toyota let on to the guy. He was just happy they replaced the engine. but they knew he was doing turbo on it too and they didnt put up any argument. I would stay clear of ANY car that has the Izzy in it. Celica included. I wouldnt be surprized if there is a major recal on those in the next couple years.

Anyway. I think if they guy in the rolla didnt have that wing, and knew how to drive better he would have stayed right beside that other car.

The IS 300 has the NA 2JZGE not the GTE, the JZZ30 soarer has the 1JZGTE, the UZZ30 soarer has the 1UZFE.
I suspect that the 2JZGTE is also found in the JDM aristo and verossa, prolly a few other places to.  Although in the local Australian market the equvalent car\'s have the 2JZGE only.
