its the body styles

1984-1986.5 = MKI
1986.5-1988 = MKII

Indecisive

OR...you could call them Zenki and Kouki

Zenki = MK.I
Kouki = MK.II

there\'s also an MK.1.5 tho...

that\'s during the cross over period of some 1986 models that had some mk.ii parts

So, what\'s 1.5 then? You gonna revert to calling it Mk1.5?

so what are the differences? grills, front corner lights, and tail lights?  anything else?

i remember when i was looking for a heater core, they said that there were two possible ones because nissan changed some stuff during mid \'87.

anybody know anything about that?

I know that timing advance was initiated by vacuum on the MK.I and electronically on the MK.II

MK.I having mechanical lifters and MK.II having hydraulic ones or something.

um....most of the changes were cosmetic...spoiler, factory skirts and chin spoiler, updated tails, grill, side markers, etc...

Yah skirts on some models (unfortunately not mine), and the manual trannies went from an exterior linkage to an interior linkage.  the coils from the turbo cars were also put into the MKII CA20\'s and the interiors were changed too.  Canadian CA20\'s also saw IRS in the rear rather than IRS.  The major difference however, and this I just found out yesterday, was that the MKI and MKII CA20 ECU\'s ARE NOT swappable.  There are three connectors on the MKII, and only Two on the MKI, and from what I can see the MKII CA20\'s have Eprom encoding...

Quotemy 87 ecu has only 2 plugs. so what is mine. mkI or mkII?
Really I haven\'t seen that before...what is the production date??  On mine (02/87) there are two right next to each other, then there is a third about an inch closer to the firewall.  The two closest to the door are right becide each other and look like one, but they are actually two plugs...are you sure yours has only two??

i think also the 1.5 and mkII that had the ca18et had the oil feed for the turbo moved from the passenger side to the driver side..i think

I can\'t believe they had it on the passenger side. that\'s most moronic Idea ever. Mines on the driver side where the turbo is but doesn\'t have IAC redesign or the rubber spoiler or a rev limter. Lucky me!! :)

YAAAA!! My car even rarer cuz I have a Mk 1.5 YAAAA!!!

I dunno about that ;-) ...the 280ZX L28ET had the turbo oil feed coming from the passenger side (US market, so the right side...opposite where the turbo is) because they just use a T-fitting off the oil pressure sender hole.

When working on the S12 ECU, one should check continuity twice, solder once.  Doh!
