Hey All,

Instead of beating each other to death over which motor is best overall why not discuss which is the best for a particular application.

For myself I am after something that is reliable for 600k\'s a week as resonably fuel efficient as well as easy and cheap to fix (as well as having some guts). These are my needs but some else might want something different. If I was 18 again (sigh) I would be after something to blast all comers off the road.

Lets see some positive comments here.

Oh lord, I know it wasn\'t your intention, but I can see this thread getting nasty pretty quick too...

I\'m not sure what kind of parts are readily available in Aus, so I\'m not really one to give my opinion on this thread...

Basically if its for the S12 then its the CA20E. They run for a long while and are pretty fuel efficient. In Aus the CA20s are everywhere so they will be cheap to replace if something bad happens.
If you want a bit more power but still cheap with fuel i suppose you could get a CA18DE from a S13. Bolt straight in using same tranny and exhaust from cat back.

CA18DE is best, better fuel economy than a CA20e, more power and will be zippy in the S12. they are reliable motors (ma mate has never had a problem) also, they have a fair bit of aftermarket support.

I\'d go with an LS1 from a Holden.  It will take a little more work to fit than a CA series engine, but it will get 30mpg, make 350HP in stock form.  It will probably be more expensive than a CA series engine in Australia, but in the US it would be a lot cheaper for parts.  Also, they are very reliable.

heh... saying that there is little work to fit an ls1 is like saying the vg30dett is a drop in   eheheh

The best motor is the new V10 coming out from BMW for the M5. Now fitting that into an S12, that\'s a waste of time. ;)

You should really word your questions better. The way it sits right now, it\'s way too open.
